Biography

Erin Raiolo fell in love with education when she was a CPR instructor at her local YMCA. After 15 years of working at the YMCA in various positions including lifeguard/swim instructor/swim coach and assistant aquatic director, she decided to pursue nursing. While in nursing school, Erin continued to teach community-based education programs through the American Red Cross. She also tutored her fellow students while attending the ADN program at Northwood Tech. After graduating, Erin continued to tutor and eventually became adjunct faculty for the ADN program. Following that, Erin started working in the ER at the University of Minnesota and quickly applied for and was hired as a preceptor and instructor. During her time there, she worked as a lead preceptor, charge nurse and unit educator for the ER.

Erin believes that education is lifelong in any profession, but especially in nursing where standards of care and best practices are always evolving. In the classroom, she loves to make learning fun and engaging. Each new group of students presents a unique subset of abilities, skill levels and life experience, and her role as an instructor is to foster their learning so they can grow as individuals and well-rounded nurses.

When Erin was a student of this program, she connected with an instructor who had a passion for teaching. This instructor had high expectations and demanded the best out of her students but made learning fun. This is what Erin wants for her students. Erin sets a high standard for her students, and she expects them to follow these standards in the classroom and clinical setting. She encourages and pushes her student to seek the information they need to become amazing and successful people in and out of the classroom.

Erin loves teaching because she loves helping people find their spark and passion. According to her, Northwood Tech is shaping the future of nursing by providing this education and she’s proud to be a part of this.
