Explore. Develop. Coordinate. Manage. In the Nonprofit Professional program, you have the option to complete all the classes in one semester or take one class at a time. The Nonprofit Professional technical diploma addresses strategies for meeting the challenges of running Board meetings, raising funds through grants and events, managing and controlling budgets, strategic planning, and communication and conflict resolution strategies.

Program Overview

As a student in the Nonprofit Professional embedded technical diploma program, you will explore the role of nonprofit organizations, develop volunteer and board relationships, explore grant and fundraising strategies, learn how to manage and control budgets and communicate effectively. Graduates of this program can find employment with assisted living centers, hospice and home care agencies, hospitals, YMCAs, childcare programs, domestic abuse and homeless shelters and many more nonprofit organizations, both locally and nationally.

Leads to an Associate Degree

Not all students are seeking a two-year degree, but if you are, the Nonprofit Professional embedded technical diploma is a pathway into the Nonprofit Leadership associate degree.

Acquire Real-Life Experience

In addition to the real-life, in-class experiences, students will participate in a hands-on field experience to practice the tasks and duties typically performed in a nonprofit organization.

Northwood Tech’s interactive online learning environment is a unique virtual learning experience. You’ll have instructor-prepared videos to help guide your learning, and you’ll participate with classmates in discussion to enhance your learning, all in the virtual world.


The Nonprofit Professional program is focused on enhancing leadership skills of both formal employees and a volunteer workforce, organizing fundraising events, and implementing marketing activities to meet organizational goals.

Featured Nonprofit Professional Courses

| 3 CR
In this course students will deepen their understanding of raising funds in the nonprofit sector. Students learn about event planning and budgeting, income projections and ticketing, marketing outreach, food and beverage, and logistics management. Students will also categorize the various types of strategic tools currently used in conjunction with social media to increase fundraising campaigns.
| 2 CR
An introductory course designed to familiarize students to the language of grants. Specific topics include proposal development, funding sources and processes, writing grant proposals, creating budgets, developing effective evaluation tools, and managing grant funds.
| 3 CR
This course follows social media’s transformation of advertising from a mass medium to one-to-one communication with immediate feedback. Social media’s use for public relations and advertising as well as how to create and deploy a social media campaign will be the main focus of the course. The history and development of social media platforms will be examined as well as today’s ethical and legal implications of social media efforts.

Admissions and Tuition

Northwood Tech has a simple three-step admissions process that can be completed in one visit. To start the process, simply fill out the application form along with a $30 application fee. After you've successfully submitted your application, your next step is to schedule an admissions meeting with a Northwood Tech counselor to discuss your goals and expectations. That's it!
