Biography
Jodie Karr has a deep-seated love of science and medicine and a strong desire to learn all that she can in those fields. When she was a graduate student, she had the opportunity to lecture and teach labs. For Jodie, this was a small glimpse of what was to come in her future. During her time as a graduate student, Jodie was fortunate to have a professor mentor her to help her along her journey. She will never forget his encouraging words. She hopes to pay it forward by helping Northwood Tech students in the way her mentor helped her.
Jodie has worked as a medical technologist at a large medical institute as well as a small, rural health clinic. For Jodie, serving patients and meeting their needs was fulfilling and educational. She has also worked as a health educator for a public health department where she worked closely with community groups and held classes to inform healthy lifestyle choices.
Jodie believes that we cease to grow as individuals when we cease to learn. Her goal, as an instructor, is to facilitate and excite the learning process; instill a passion for learning in each of her students–a passion that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. She believes that if she can create a passion for lifelong learning in her students, she will have achieved the most rewarding of goals.
In her spare time, Jodie enjoys taking her dogs for walks in the woods, watching movies with her family and cooking (when she has time). She also enjoys reading a good book on the beach and traveling. She will never pass up a good cup of coffee.
