Graduate Follow-up Survey and Information

Congratulations, 2024-25 graduates!

As a graduate, your feedback on the training you received and your success in the labor market is important. Your voice matters.

What is the Graduate Follow-up Survey?

The Graduate Follow-up Survey is a state survey that provides graduates an opportunity to provide Northwood Technical College feedback on their completed program or credential and their success in the labor market. This information is used to make necessary changes to our programs and to show new and potential students program information directly from our most recent graduates, such as the average percent of graduates employed after graduation and the average starting salary for that year. Information used in our reports are calculated into averages before use, so no identifying information is ever used.

How the results affect the college

The Graduate Follow-up Survey is required by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) to be sent out to graduates about six months after graduation. The response to this survey is one of the ways technical colleges can secure funding from the WTCS.

  • Who is surveyed?
    • Students who complete any credential, including an Associate Degree, Two Year Technical Diploma, One Year Technical Diploma, Less Than One Year Technical Diploma, Certificate, Nursing Assistant, EMT Basic, or Advanced EMT, will be sent the survey. This means students may be surveyed multiple times during their time at Northwood Technical College.
  • What kind of questions are asked?
    • Below is a sample of the Graduate Follow-Up Survey and the questions that will be asked.

  • Why do we ask for your Employer Information?
    • Technical colleges are working more closely with employers to help students learn the skills they need for jobs that are available. We survey employers to give them an opportunity to let Northwood Tech know what skills they find valuable and how our graduates are meeting their expectations after being hired. This collaboration also helps local businesses find and keep workers who have the right skills.
  • Why do we ask for your Salary Information?
    • Northwood Technical College collects salary data from our Graduate Follow-up survey every year. This data shows new and inquiring students the average starting salary in fields related to the degree each year. Salary information used in our reports is calculated into averages before use, so no identifying information is ever used.
  • Do you share my information or comments?
    • Any data information provided to us by graduates is combined and averaged before being used in any reports. Individual comments are shared anonymously to the programs they’re tied to, to assist in making changes to the programs as needed. We also take a small number of comments anonymously each year to add to our final report to share with Board Members and Leadership Teams.
  • Are there different ways to complete the survey?
    • Yes, our survey staff provides multiple ways for graduates to complete the survey. Graduates will be sent a paper copy to complete with a prepaid return envelope for them to send back to Northwood Tech. The survey can also be completed online through the link above. Each graduate will be assigned an access code to use to login to the survey online. Graduates can also complete the survey over the phone with one of our survey staff.

  • When will I be surveyed?
    • Graduates from the previous academic year will be surveyed the following fall. For example, graduates who graduated in December 2023 and May 2024 will first be contacted about the Graduate Follow-up survey in October 2024. Staff from the Office of Institutional Research will reach out to remind graduates about the survey between October and February. This includes students who have completed any level of credential at Northwood Technical College.
