Celebrating Success on International Automation Professionals Day: Dan Loney’s Journey from Student to Engineering Leader
April 28, 2025
On International Automation Professionals Day, we recognize Dan Loney, an inspiring alumnus of Northwood Technical College’s Industrial Automation, Controls and Networking (currently Automation for Industrial Systems) program. His journey showcases how innovative thinking and hands-on education can transform aspirations into achievements.
Dan graduated from Northwood Technical College in 2005, beginning a career in industrial automation and engineering that spans two decades. He started as a Controls Engineer and steadily advanced to his current position as Engineering Manager at Egan Company. Dan has led engineering teams in delivering complex system integration projects across diverse industries. His proudest achievement? Building strong, lasting relationships with customers and internal partners, proving that engineering is as much about people as it is about machines.
Dan attributes much of his success to the education he received at Northwood Technical College. He particularly appreciated the early focus on computer networking basics during his first year, explaining, “This early exposure to networking set a strong foundation for the more complex system integration work I do today.” He also notes the diversity of his career in system integration as one of the reasons he chose this path, saying, “No two projects are the same, and each one brings a new puzzle to solve. Engineering gives me the chance to stay curious, build practical solutions, and keep learning every day.”
Today, at Egan Company, Dan thrives in a workplace that champions collaboration, innovation, and growth. He appreciates the dynamic nature of his projects and the leadership’s dedication to fostering a positive culture where ideas are celebrated, and contributions recognized.
