Biography
Having been a military spouse for 17 years has allowed me, as a Certified Medical Assistant, to obtain employment in many different states across the country. This has given me the opportunity to work in rural and culturally diverse areas which has expanded my knowledge and ability to help patients in those populations. I look forward to passing some of my experiences on to my students.
If you are a person interested in a career in healthcare but not quite sure what you would like to do, the Medical Assistant program would be a great place to start. Medical Assistants are trained in a variety of roles and can work in many different areas in health care. Our program will allow new graduates to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants exam, which then allows them to use the title of Certified Medical Assistant, which is recognized nation-wide. There is always a demand for Medical Assistants, so this almost guarantees job placement even before graduation.
I approach teaching in a way that I hope most students can follow and understand. I like to work through the material step by step while incorporating real life scenarios or experiences to help back up what they are learning. Being able to get the students to visualize and understand the importance of each step in both group discussions and hands-on ways and seeing their “ah-ha” moments is exciting to me.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends now that I live back home. Being away for 17 years makes you appreciate the time spent with those who mean the most to you. Distance does make the heart grow fonder! I also enjoy swimming, crafting, painting, DIY home projects, and watching movies or reading while cuddled up next to my dogs.
