Safety training is a lot more than being compliant with OSHA or MSHA standards. Help your employees become aware of potential safety hazards and follow safe work practices in everything they do.
Workplace Safety Classes
For your convenience, workplace safety classes are offered throughout the 11-county Northwood Tech region at various times throughout the year. Many are approved training courses recognized by OSHA and MSHA. Conferences and workshops that meet industry requirements for continuing education hours are offered on a regular basis. Online classes for specific topics or audiences are also available. Please check back as new classes are added on a regular basis.
Types of Certification
Many businesses are required to have safety training by state and federal agencies. The list below summarizes the common requirements, and are taught by certified instructors at Northwood Tech on a regular basis.

OSHA Safety: Construction 10-hour

This training program is intended to provide an entry level construction worker’s general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. Students who complete the course will receive the Department of Labor (DOL) issued student course completion card. This class has been approved for CEU's by Wisconsin DSPS.

OSHA Safety: Construction 30-hour

This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry and provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. The 30-hour course is intended for construction employees with safety responsibilities such as foremen, superintendents, project managers, safety coordinators and safety specialists. Students who complete the course will receive Department of Labor (DOL) issued student course completion cards. Students must complete all sessions in consecutive order to receive their card.

OSHA Safety: General Industry 10-hour

This course for people in the general industry sector covers the following subjects: hazard communication, hazardous materials, means of egress and fire protection, walking and working surfaces, machine guarding, lock out/tag out, personal protective equipment, introduction to OSHA inspections, citations, and penalties. Students who complete the course will receive the Department of Labor (DOL) issued student course completion card. This class has been approved for CEU's by Wisconsin DSPS.

OSHA Safety: General Industry 30-hour

This course for people in the general industry sector covers the following subjects: hazard communication, hazardous materials, means of egress and fire protection, walking and working surfaces, machine guarding, lock out/tag out, personal protective equipment, introduction to OSHA inspections, citations, and penalties. The OSHA 30-hour General Industry training is intended for supervisors and workers with some safety responsibility. Students who complete the course will receive DOL issued student course completion cards. Students must complete all sessions in consecutive order to receive their card.

MSHA Part 46 New Miner

This mining industry safety course is intended for those who work, or intend to work at a surface mine site, such as those engaged in shell dredging or employed at sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, or surface limestone mines. This includes mine operator employees who have never worked in a mine, contractors’ employees who have never worked in a mine, experienced miners who have started work for a new employer or contractor and need to supplement their training. Part 46 of MSHA regulations requires that mine operators and/or independent contractors provide safety training to new miners before they enter a mine site.

MSHA Refresher: Part 46

This course meets the MSHA Part 46 8-hour annual refresher requirements for mine workers. The purpose of this training is to keep miners informed of conditions at the mine site that present potential health or safety hazards. You or your company must have a MSHA Part 46 training plan to attend this class. The training plan must be sent to the college or instructor/trainer at least 2 weeks prior to the class. The instructor/trainer must be listed on your company's training plan as a competent person prior to the class.
